Why you need to try putting your top sheets on upside down

For many of us, making the bed is a tedious chore. Even though many of us learnt the basics, it doesn’t necessarily make the task any easier today.

Typically, the average bed setup includes a fitted sheet, a top sheet, and either a quilt, comforter, or duvet.

While you don’t need a degree to make your bed, there are some useful tips and tricks that can make the process more efficient. Surprisingly, many people unknowingly place their top sheets inside out. Can you believe it? Here’s why…

According to Southern Living, the key is that the patterned side of the top sheet should face downward. While this might initially seem counterintuitive, it makes perfect sense when you fold the top sheet over the duvet, comforter, or quilt. This way, the patterned side will be visible, adding a decorative touch to your bed.

The best method? Folding the top sheet down an inch or two over the top of your quilt. If you then fold the top sheet and quilt together once more, your bed will start to resemble the neatly made beds you find in hotels. What could be better than that?

These simple housekeeping tips can significantly enhance the appearance of your bedroom, making it look thoughtfully put together rather than hastily assembled. Additionally, some recommend using two pillows with pillowcases that match the sheet set, along with two pillows that match the quilt or duvet cover.

Putting your top sheets on upside down can actually make a difference in terms of comfort and aesthetics. The smooth side of the fabric often feels nicer against your skin, while the patterned or textured side can add a decorative touch to your bed. Plus, if you have a sheet with a tag, putting it upside down can help hide the tag from view, giving a cleaner look. It’s a simple trick that can enhance your bedding experience!

When you put your top sheet on upside down, you’re essentially flipping it so that the softer side is facing up. This can make a big difference in how it feels when you sleep. Many sheets have a smoother, softer finish on one side, which is often the side that should be facing your skin for maximum comfort.

Additionally, if your sheets have a pattern or design, having the patterned side facing down can create a nice visual effect when you fold down the top of the sheet. It gives a more polished look to your bed.

Another practical reason is that the tag on sheets can sometimes be annoying or scratchy. By putting the sheet on upside down, you can position the tag at the foot of the bed or even hide it completely, making your sleeping area more comfortable.

Overall, it’s a simple adjustment that can enhance both comfort and the appearance of your bedding!
